Bob...that's classic equipment for those times and I often wonder just how many customers really owned those brands.

Heathkit Ham radios were quite popular along with their test gear kits (their TT-1A I still have). I knew a couple guys who built a HK receiver (forgot the model).

I used to always look at the Heathkit catalog.

I also remember Lafayette Electronics stores.

Another thing I used to do is get a magazine called Popular Electronics, and I built all kinds of things from articles in that magazine with parts from RadioShack.

Not to change the subject of this thread. I built a 40 meter 1 tube transmitter from a schematic I found in a magazine and housed it in a lunch box and several antenna tuners . In the 70's it was easy to find parts to build your own equipment and fun. I used to love making my antenna's and seeing how far I could reach. Since the internet I have given up on ham radio. My wife used to say all we did was say..." hello, where are you ? , good by

By mail order, no less! Frank knew how to get his products into the homes of his customers. I'm sure he would have approved internet sales too, it that avenue had been available.
