[QUOTE=KMC45;838046]Monitor Audio laid back.[/QUOTE
It depends on your perspective. Prior to the PL500's, I didn't like Monitor Audio, because I submit they were to forward. My PL500's are connected to all Jeff Rowland gear and Rowland is known for being on the neutral to the slightly dark side of neutral. In addition, my room is well treated. Compared to the Wilson's and Aerial's I had the PL500's are neutral to "my ears." Although the same room, to be fair both the Wilson's and Aerial's were with very different equipment.

stock78,
No problem. All that being said, you may hear things differently. What other speakers are you considering?

I found your description of the PL 500 very accurate and it mirrors what I heard. The 500 has an authoritative sound in my vieuw, also due to the three-dimensional nature of the speaker, which I liked very much from the beginning I heard them at the dealer's showroom. For that reason I am considering only the PL500 from the speakers I heard at this moment and I heard a lot, more or less all the big names we all know. One of the very few I want to hear yet is the new Yamaha NS5000, which received very positive remarks, no revieuw published yet as far as I know. Last edited by stock78; 03-22-2017 at 06:29 PM. |

stock78,
I have owned several speakers and had a great opportunity to hear many more 2 years ago while attending RMAF. I'm finally done with speakers. Not because the PL500's are perfect or the "best", but they do so many things so well. 30K is expensive to me, but in the crazy high-end speaker market, the PL500's are almost a bargain. What did the dealer use for electronics to drive the PL500's?

I have the PL100, PL200, PL300, and PLInWall speakers.
I would love to hear how people compare the PL500 to the older PL300s.

I really don't remember which electronics were used, not so common used brands but decent and the best in shop I suppose. They were especially brought in for the show, some 6 months ago. I think by a wide margin not as good as my own Krell 400E/ARC ref5SE, Sony cd hopefully soon to be replaced with Esoteric K1/K01X or the likes. I have to pay around 15K Euro for the pair of PL500's, so that's a real bargain. |

stock78,
I thought I would follow-up my earlier comments since I received a JL Audio F112 subwoofer. I've had the PL500 IIs with an SVS SB16 Ultra and the JL F110. I don't want to exaggerate, but the F112 has added detail and improved the overall sound to a degree that I just don't understand. This hobby is crazy...no matter what I have, occasionally I get a new component that takes me to a new level. I don't think the PL500's are bass deficient, but boy does the F112 make them sound better!
