Karajan 1960s,any thoughts?
I have ordered the "Karajan 1960s" 82 CD compilation by DG.
We used to enjoy many of the LPs from that era. I have been disappointed in the sound quality of CDs that I purchased in the 80s and 90s replicating some of the material . Quite a few of those older LPs were not transferred to CD until this set came along. These are supposedly "remastered" with improved sound.Would appreciate anyone's opinion if you own the set. Thanks! |

Although I have no direct experience with DG remastered material but most other remastered discs that I do own have been very good.
For some reason, DG's efforts with early digital recordings seem to be somewhat lackluster which is odd considering their late '70s analog recordings - most of which are excellent. Ratings seem to be generally favorable so I think the recording quality should be reasonably good for most of the works. That volume of music should keep you going for some time! Looking forward to hearing your impressions. |

It's generally a good decade for von Karajan.
