1812 Overture
My 90 year old neighbor just came over and wanted to hear the 1812 overture, gave him a seat in the sweet spot and listened to the canon fire, oh my...so very cool!

ahhhh the '1812', which rendition did you play ?
Lorin Maazel and the Cleveland Symphony is my favorite. A lot of folks love to poke fun at the 1812, the problem being there are many 'hack' performances out there IMO. Last edited by Mikado463; 09-09-2017 at 05:35 PM. |

I will compare against Yuri Ahronovitch and the London Symphony -

AFAIK, he never recorded the 1812 with the Cleveland Orchestra. The VPO perhaps?

Yes, from the opera 'Eugen Onegin'
Tchaikovsky actually wrote quite a few operas. |

Quote:
Rodzinsky and Cleveland (Vinyl only I think, have to get a burned copy on CD) Kunzel and Cincinnati Pops Kunzel and Cincinnati Symphony (FIM remaster is particularly good) Davis and Boston Symphony Reiner with Chicago Previn with London Symphony Gergiev with Marinksy Gergiev with London Symphony Dorati with Minneapolis Bernstein with Israeli Philharmonic are all particularly good. |
