The increased sampling rate made a significant improvement in the sound and really made the rear speakers open up as I have never heard before. But, I have discovered that Oppo players cannot play 176.4, but are limited to 88.2.
From latest firmware: I just have reduced the brightness of the stand-by LED.

I have quite a few SACD's (mostly classic music and opera). So I'll try it, but I have a Oppo BDP-105. We'll see.

I am wondering if it would be possible with a software upgrade to change the sampling rate on the SP3. The only reason for this inquiry is that on 2 channel SACD when the sampling rate was PCM 88.2, I could change it from 2.0 to 7.1. However, you are stuck with 2 channels with 176.4 and you cannot change it from 2.0 to 7.1. Is it possible? Of course I do not want to forever forgo 176.4, but I'd like to have the option to decrease the sampling rate.

I wouldn't be surprised if 176.4 is only possible with two channels, but let's see what James will tell us.

From Engineering:

Since DTS and Dolby certification last year (around release 2013.06) , surround modes won't work in 176.4 and 192k PCM 2.0, but version 2012.05e did!

So there is a chance it will come back?

Depends on the DTS and Dolby licensing requirements.

This is why I'd like the option to reduce the sampling rate to 88.2 for 2 channel only SACDs. But, after thinking about it, I could get an Oppo which is limited to playing back 88.2. Then I can play 2.0 SACDs in 7.1.

Does the display screen on the sp3 show when a source is running in dts hd or Dolby true hd? I only see dts or Dolby digital on the screen, it doesn't say "true" or "HD".

Bryston SP3' Bryston 6b-sst, 3b-sst, BDA-2, Dynaudio Confidence C2 (front), Dynaudio SCX (center), Dynaudio Audience (rears), ocos speaker cables, Vertere USB D-FI DD and most Bryston interconnect cables

I am looking at a concert, and the SP3 reads DTSHD MA 5.1.

I tried various blue rays and a Dolby true hd never comes up, it's just says Dolby D 5.1. I select Dolby true hd in the DVD menu settings. I just realized it doesn't work through the spdif cable source but it does when I switch to hdmi. Don't tell me I spent all this money on an expensive digital cable only for it not to work properly. Anybody know why this is happening? I am using this years firmware, April.
