Graham, Could you expound on that statement?

Hi Rmac,

I've found the LCD2 paints a very engaging potrayal of music when it comes to the recording and the gear... it has a balance of virtues that makes listening easy and just a bit mesmerising... from my understanding the LCD3 adds a level of transparency and resolution that makes it more revealing of sources and recordings... more highly tuned and potentially a less forgiving ride so you may feel the bumps a bit more. Just that (as usual in our pursuit) resolution can be a double edged sword and requires an escalating commitment to the whole system.

Graham
Thanks, LCD3=almost too clean. Similar to progressive scan DVD players. I believe I can "see" the set in the background at times, takes away from the show.

Just got a pair of Grado SR325is and running them from my Mcintosh MCD500. Not quite there yet, although they say they demand quite alot of burn-in time..

Just picked up a pair of AKG K-550's. With about 15 hours on them, they're starting to come around. In some ways they're much better than the Sennheiser HD428-S I was using, but the biggest deficit being low end. I'm going to reserve judgement until my new W4S mINT arrives in about 2 weeks as what I'm using now hardly qualifies as a headphone amp.

A good amp will make the K550 shine, but don't expect a lot of bass. K701 has more bottom-end, but it's Open Back.

A big thanks to Mike's (dj) recommendation on my newly acquired Denon AH-D7000 headphones ...I'm really liking the sound of these and they look absolutely gorgeous too. Private late nite listening..... without disturbing the neighbors.

Currently being burned in now with my Olive 06 music server's streaming radio station....that headphone outlet really comes in handy right now and even more so in a few weeks when something in a champagne faceplate comes to paradise. Of course a headphone amp will just bring it up to a whole new level.
