Poobah,

I noticed a lack of LFE after setting up Room Perfect as well. Action movies no longer
have the room shaking sound effects. Using the Action voicing setting provides
too much bass, like someone turned the bass setting to full. Let me know if you
come up with a custom voicing that works well.

Thanks,
Leonard

I have not experienced any lack of LFE with my setup. I have my three front speakers (XRT1K's & XCS1K) set to XL, my side surrounds (XLS320's) set to M, my back surrounds (B&W THX Dipoles) set to XS, and my sub (Gotham) set to Sub-80. I am using the voicing set to Neutral.

Seems odd that it works well for some and not so well for others...

Roomperfect to my understanding tries to alter sound to the room... thus tweaking things up or down at varies frequencies and volume levels until it finds what it believes to be a level accurate response accross the entire sound spectrum.

So I'm not sure why LFE is getting drastically cut in my case and Leonardas, where as it's working fine in JFRO's... regardless of your room's sonic signature.

But I'm encouraged to see your LFE is working well in your case, especially in neutral voicing... I'm picking up my computer tonight, so hopefully I'll get to play with the voicings on the weekend.

Curious... Do you have multiple subs? are they hooked up as master/slave via the Sub output, or independent masters via Aux 1 and 2 or 3 and 4?

If I recall correctly, it was explained by Ron-C in a thread about the MEN220 that the Room Perfect does not boost any frequencies - it just cuts those at a higher level down to a level no more than that of the lowest level frequencies.

What may be happening for you guys is that the room correction is "correcting" a bass peak near your focus position so that it seems that it is now deficient in bass output. I had previously run the Gotham's Automatic Room Optimization process, so perhaps that had already reduced some of the bass peak nodes in my room.

Also, if you are running your dual subs off of the Aux outputs, aren't you then sending the low frequencies for the left and right front channels to the subs instead of the LFE output? I saw where you said that you had tried setting the front left and right speakers to XXL - when you did that, did you also tell it that you had no sub? If not, try it. The owner's manual says that the XXL speaker size setting will only reproduce the LFE sounds if there is no sub. I'm assuming you don't have the Sub output on the MX150 connected to either of the JL subs, and you have the Aux outputs connected instead.

The LFE is passed to the subs in addition to the low frequencies for the left and right. With Roomperfect Bypassed the sub's LFE response is great..

It is possible, and I still need to test this for sure... that room perfect handles the aux 1 and 2 out differently then it handles sub out. If this is the case, it's likely some sort of over sight or programing mis-hap? I would think they should be handled exactly the same with obvious exception that extra low frequencies are added to the existing LFE from the front left and right speakers.

It's a good point again, but the lfe still worked wonderfully with RoomPerfect bypassed... I can't remember what I'm set to at the moment. I'll check that out.

And yes the sub out is not hooked up. Aux 1 and 2 out is setup as sub80.

Poobah,

With your subs connected to Aux. 1&2 and set to sub80, do you get trim control for the subs from the remote or front panel? I tried my 4 subs connected to the Aux. and didn't get trim adjustment, that's why I went back to the sub OUT.

Thanks....Scott

Just got back from our vacation. No, the XR290's go down to 16 Hz,
no subs used or recommended with those spreakers. I have the sub
set to "-". I use the neutral voicing with Room Perfect. I will probably
not use Room Perfect with action movies like you do for now until I
can come up with a custom voicing. The Action voicing has way too much
bass.

My XRT2K's go down to 16hz, however I use dual Gothams with both pairs of them.

Likewise, my XRT1K's and XCS1K have a - 3 db response point of 16 Hz, and things still improved with the addition of my Gotham.
