Default Sub (s) placement??

Do most of you place your sub(s) next to your main speakers as Carl Kennedy suggests?

Or do you break them up, if using (2), with one up front, and one in the back of the room.

In my present configuration I have them set up to the outside edge of my mains slightly away from the corners. I tried them in between but ended placing them back to the original positions.

In my main system, the JL Audio Fathom f113 subwoofer is to the left of the right channel speaker about 3 feet, facing into the listening area, and about 18 inches off the back wall.

In the studio two channel system, the McIntosh XLS112 subwoofer is on the right side wall, 90 degrees to the main speakers, about half way between the right channel speaker and the listening position, and about 6 inches off the wall.

In the studio home theater system, the JBL LSR6312SP subwoofer is center of the room between the two JBL LSR 6328P bi-amp center channel speakers, and about 14 inches off the rear wall.

Our media rooms are similar. Mine is circa 20x20x8.
But my JL113's are on the inside edge of my Mcintosh front speakers.
Why do you like the outside edge better?
What are your room dimensions?

Thanks

PS
I once had them (JL113's) staggered on the side walls and was very happy unitil I read Kennedy's opinion which made sense for music.
Staggered on the side walls, brought the subs closer to the listening position, and made movies that much more powerful.

Not sure if this is the norm or not, but works for me......My F113 is in the middle on the back wall in my theater area. I run 7 channels (Definitive Technology speakers), and all 7 channels have powered subs. I connect the sub output from my receiver to the front RH/LH channels LFE in (18" woofers) and also the Fathom F-113. My projector screen rolls down in front of a large entertainment center that I also have a plasma tv in, with my gear in a side cabinet. Center channel sits on the open top shelf and the plasma sits below enclosed. Worked good without the Fathom, but tons better with

Thanks, I'm saving for a pair of Maxx II's. Presently the Wilsons are driven using a Levinson 335 for 2 channel and the B&K reference 7250 series II for the center and rear surrounds. Denon 3808 being used as a processor only.

My room is smaller in width. 20x15x8 and they did sound good on the inside edges of the mains. Unfortunately I had a problem with light from the projector reflecting off of the top surface of the subs in the dark. Bass was reinforced better with them near but not up against the corners of the room. Would love to see pics of your setup?
