I wonder how it compares to Nordost Qv2?

I have not done it yet, but I am thinking about adding two of these.

I recently added the Venom Defender, along with the Venom PS8 power distributor and the Venom HC power cord. These serve as a secondary setup to my PS Audio P5 regenerator. Each piece is looks to be very well constructed. The distributor fits very nicely on the floor behind my rack.

I placed the SR components into service as a system, so I can't comment on the difference the Defender makes as an individual component. I also don't have any experience with the Nordost component.

Apparently you can plug the Venom Defender anywhere on the circuit, even another receptacle. It has grabbed my attention too.

I was curious enough to pick one up on Saturday from my dealer. The surge protection for the occasional overvoltage being my primary interest and less so the goal of improving the sonics of my system.

Since then, I have had it plugged into the same duplex receptacle that powers my McIntosh MC402. The rest of my system is fed by a Shunyata Talos, Venom PCs.

I have mostly been listening non-critically since then but have to say that the music has caught my attention way too many times to not be convinced the Defender isn't making a positive contribution. I have not tried similar competing devices to compare, but if your system is all Shunyata based and you've got gear being fed direct, I would suggest you give one a try. My experience anyway is positive.

I have been using one on the same duplex as my CJ Premier 350. My experience mirrors what McIntosh writes. The Defender lowers the noise floor another notch and seems to "relax" the system with no compromise in dynamics and articulation. With every Shunyata product I add, the less I think about my system and the more I become obsessed with music. There is also invariably a marked increase in questions from my wife like, "Who is this? Let's hear some more of that." Right now the latest release by "The Naked and Famous" is literally shaking the floor of my house, but there's not the slightest fatigue even at 89db! And no complaints from my better half.

I decided to try a Shunyata Defender. I'm fortunate to have pretty clean power to my house. The power in my neighborhood is underground and we're very close to the power sub-station. I'm currently using a Furutech power distributor plugged into a dedicated 20amp line with a PS Audio Power Port Premier outlet (Mac MC302 plugged directly to the PS Audio outlet). That being said I was still curious as to what the Defender could do. I unfortunately bought my Furutech power distributor about month before the Shunyata came out otherwise I would have went that direction.

I've not had a chance for any critical listening but initial impressions are good. I have noticed a slight increase in separation and detail which has equated to an increase in depth. Voices and solo instruments are more out front from other background instruments. Looking forward for the weekend to really do some A/B comparisons.

Has anyone noticed any burn-in period with the Defender? Anyone with additional impressions of the Shunyata Defender?

While I did not notice any lengthy burn in process with the Defender, I found that it improved a bit during 24 hours. I was using a relatively new receptacle so it might have also been the receptacle burning in.

I have a Defender on order for my TV circuit. It will plug into an unused outlet where my two port Hydra is connected. The TV and sub plug into the Hydra, although I rarely turn the sub on.
