The photo you are referring to also has all the gear for my home theater which is on the other side of the wall.

Hi, Shockvvave.

I don't have experience with the XA100s, but rather the XA100.5s.

Is it sufficient to drive your speakers? Don't let the 100 W per channel rating (200 W into 4 ohms) deceive you. These amps can put out plenty of full-bodied power to drive your speakers to satisfying SPL levels. I use them with Magnepan 20.7s, which have a sensitivity below 90 dB per W, and they get plenty loud. Then again, I listen to acoustic music, mostly classical.

The heat produced by these amps does not bother me at all even in summer. When idling they reach a heat fin temperature of 50 deg C which is warm but these are definitely not space heaters.

I recommend you check out Reno Hi-Fi and get in contact with Mark. He can arrange a home audition for any Pass Labs amp you are interested in. If they work for you, great. If not, then just return them and pay for round-trip shipping. He's a great guy to do business with. Tell him Carlos sent you.

From what I have read the main difference between the 100 and 100.5 was that the 100 did not handle 4 ohm loads very well. I do not know much about the B&W's impedance but if they swing low for any portion I would get the .5's.

Thank you guys. Both of your post are very informative. It's exactly what Mr. Pass himself replied to my email explaining. Seems the low level on the B&W are hungry. Without the xa100 doubling down it's not powerful enough to do bass management. And he suggested both .5 and .8.

Thank you for detailing the heat factor. That was starting to turn me off a bit. So I'm glad you shared that info.

I'm definitely going to contact Mark and see how it goes.

I get my first pass this week. The X3, which I really hope is a good amp. Wanted to get something to carry me over until I save up for the xa100.5.

Shockvvave - be sure to check out used XA100.5s which are more commonly available due to the release of the newer model XA100.8.
