75 hours in and things are shaping up
Bass is coming in although still a bit unfocused
Image width is very wide.
Depth is a bit better but lacking in air
Things seem louder also

So far about what is expected

G997, I have a wild idea to try. Try the alpha on your Meridian C15 or MD600 Sooloos streaming components.

I put a mains conditioniner on my Meridian MC200 streaming server, gbit router and put some good quality powercables on them to the conditioner. Everything got more agile and quiet and beautiful at the same time.

My theory is that the alpha will do more good on your source streaming components than on your digital/analog preamp/streaming endpoint, 818v2. Since you were already at the cobra level there.

I've been contemplating exactly what your are proposing.

But the Alpha is sounding so good on the 818 that it isn't going anywhere. I'll have to order up a few more and try them on my C10L and RM Twinstore

I've just ordered a Schiit Gungnir DAC just so that I can put a Shunyata Xitron Alpha on it!

Hi G997,

Would you still recommend the zitron alpha digital on an 818? I just took delivery of an 818v2 (that thing is no joke, by the way).

Thanks,

Soundserge

We discussed this in another thread and the consensus was to try move up in the line to python or alpha analog HC on the 818v2 and 861v8 preamps to see if the increased DTCD work better. My guess is that it does but it's unconfirmed sofar. 818v2/861v8 have well-sized LPSU's.

Have you tried the Shunyata Xitron Alpha with the Schiit Gungnir yet? I'm curious because if there is significant improvement then I'll be getting an Alpha for my Gungnir. For now I'm using a Sidewinder VTX.

For the Meridan, the Alpha HC will give you the best performance. However, it is about 25% more expensive.
