Default Tom Gillet (Sam Tellig) Leaves Stereophile

Tom announced his departure from Stereophile Magazine over on Audio Asylum.

He was one of my favorite writers. Got to meet him several times over the years. Great guy and excellent reviewer.

Good Luck Tom in your next endeavor(s)!

I will miss him...

I still love the article he wrote in Stereophile in 2003 about the Sonus Faber Cremona and his time with the late Franco Serblin in SF's factory. It is a very good article for Sonus Faber's lovers and I am one.

Yeah, this really sucks, I probably enjoyed his writing more than any other person on their staff. That's a big loss for them, hate to hear it.

My guess is Tom is retiring, he's on in years, IiRC.

I don't want to disparage Tom in any way, but I found his reviews to be rather...strange. Probably my least favorite reviewer. I dunno, I think for me his sensibilities did not keep pace with the times. I prefer Art Dudley and Michael Lavorgna, and Stephen Mejias.

And JA is always good for a laugh, and a true gentleman.

I enjoyed his column, although I don't know that he was my favorite. However, I've subscribed for so long that I've gotten used to seeing people come and go. I was sorry to see Stephen Mejias leave; I loved his column, even though the equipment he reviewed was not of great interest. I was sorry to see Corey Greenberg and Jonathan Scull disappear from the pages of Stereophile, along with many others, but I'll continue to subscribe and hope for another new writer that I enjoy.

Also been a subscriber for many years (pre-JA). Enjoyed Sam's columns, but perhaps a bit much of his personal life/wife in his writing for me. Think JA is the best of the current crop. Especially his technical reviews. And, what a relief to see the incredibly juvenile putz, Steven Mejias, finally hit the road. I was amazed to learn that he was 30-somthing. Wrote like a typical self-absorbed 14yr-old. Like our stereo gear. We all hear what we hear and like what we like. Takes all kinds.
