Default Pass + McIntosh = Match made in heaven?

Anyone here using a Mc tube pre with a Pass amplifier? Curious how they sound together.

Just finished a two week demo of the PASS XA100.8. Matched it with my Mac C2300 and Magico S1's. Ended up ordering the PASS, so to me that setup sounded pretty good. Great bottom end.

I tried the amps direct with my Weiss 202, but I preferred the sound with the Mac in the equation. The Mac made the sound just a little warmer.

I will see if I can get my hands on a spectral for a demo as raidho suggests.

Hi Rooimier,

sorry I have the xa100.5 and they sound good. (premapli is a xp20) Have you compared the 100.8 and the 100.5?

For my taste the Mc prempli is not the top with the Pass amplifier: a AR ref5se or the Spectral 30 is much better on the mid freq. Mc sound too "moud".
Maybe the S1 give a good combo at the complety system but never listen and Mcintosh and Magico is not a combo much present on the shows.

If you can try the Spectral and a tube preampli (Nagra-Audio Res. - VTL...)

greetings

Raidho,

I did not compare the xa100.5 with the xa100.8. I demo'd the xa100.8 and after that I had no need to demo more. Just sounded that good.

I agree with your statement...never seen Mcintosh and Magico combined at an audio show.

Thanks for the input.
