Can I give you some advice? I live in Florida
And live in Baton Rouge for 8 years Before you plug any of your gear in, just set it all up and don’t. (DO NOT ) plug any power Plugs in. Let the gear sit for a week and let them adjust to the humidity and air temperature of the room first. That is if they have been sitting stored away for a long time I’ve bunted up some very expensive gear by no doing this. Anytime I sell any audio gear, amps. Preamps, speakers or any other type of electronics , I tell the buyer this information, and most do as I describe and a few have not. Two of the buyers that did not do this toasted the amps. Just my 2cents and good luck and sweet setup. Would love to see some pics |

The MAC4100 and MAC4200 are rated 75 wpc into 8 ohms and 100 wpc into 4 ohms.
The MAC4300V is rated 100 wpc into 8 & 4 ohms and is also remote controlled whereas the earlier two models were not. With the MAC4100 and MAC4200, Y-RCA interconnect cables are needed to run an additional outboard amplifier if the user also wants to use the amplifier section of either receiver in conjunction with the outboard unit. With the MAC4300, the main amplifier section can be used without the need for "jumpering" the preamp output to the MAC4300's main amplifier inputs: The preamp-main amplifier connections are internal so it does not require "U" jumpers. The internal feed is to the main amp section is disconnected only when RCA cables are connected at the MAIN IN jacks of the MAC4300. All three of these receivers have the ability to drive 3 pair of speakers simultaneously - down to loads as little as 2 ohm. As far as I'm aware, McIntosh is the only manufacturer that designed this capability into a receiver. Last edited by 62caddy; 11-11-2018 at 04:02 PM. |

Great Advice
carlthess40.......Although I may have given the reader the wrong impression, all of this stuff was in the house well before any of it was connected to AC power. Regardless, your advice is sound and thanks for taking the time to pass it along. As for the setup...even though I had some trouble remembering some of the connections we used before Katrina blew us out of NOLA, I am very happy to report that the testing phase had the desired effect. In other words, we hooked up a simple two-channel setup -- through a pair of B&W N805s -- put in "The Celts" by Enya and, all of the sudden, we had no further desire to test for the evening. The MAC4200, acting as preamp to the MC300, produced a sound that I haven't heard since I last visited the McIntosh dealer back in Metairie in 2004. In short, this old Mac equipment still sounds about as good as anything I've heard in a [somewhat] reasonable price range. God bless the folks who have tens of thousands to spend on their equipment, but I can still hear Tori Amos' breathing while striking the keys on her Bosendorfer with fairly stark clarity, so I'm certainly not complaining.

Great Post
62caddy.......Thanks for the great post comparing and contrasting the old solid state Mac receivers of the day. In fact, I always thought of the MAC4100 and MAC4200 as 100W receivers, so thanks for the education...kind of makes me want to hear a MAC4300, but we all know what that leads to, don't we? Thanks again.

carlthess40.......The best I can tell, you have to have your photo(s) stored on a website (i.e., photo bucket). From there, you can employ the Insert Image icon -- the one that looks like a yellow and grey postcard -- above the word processor window to insert the URL where your photo is stored. I hope that helps.
