Just wondering if you are able to get the SATA to IDE adapter working. I tried a few and it will not see the SATA drive during the reload of the OS to format the drive.

Default In Quest of the GOLDEN DISK

ESCIENT have heard for years that my Blue shelf support legs may yet 1 day be revived to fill my soul with my audio classics has kept me searching for the ephemeral G-DISKS for decades. A hint of help from mike175gr was my incentive to join today - but now need 10 POSTS to be able to PM him...

Very happy with my MS750, have my MS300 on the shelf as backup. Key is getting the power supply dealt with (ditch the old caps) and having the fan on 100% of the time.

Since the HDD doesn't sleep, I think splicing into the 12 volt power feed to the HDD would cause the fan motor to stay on as long as the HDD is receiving power. I'll test it out next time I'm in my shop.
I have an MS750 that I believe the HDD is faulty since the status light just flashes. I also have an MS300 that is working fine, I pulled the power supply and swapped it to the 750 to see if that was it, it was not. I'm happy to test out my theory on the down unit and report.

Assume you have tried unplugging for 30 minutes or so and then plugging in again, right?

I just remembered one thing that happened on MY MS300 a couple years back. Also would not boot so put new drive in, installed software and all ok. Kept the old drive anyway and tried it again some time later and it was fine. Turned out to be the ribbon data cable was faulty, so try unplugging and plugging that back in also, both ends of it in fact or replacing as they are cheap. If you do replace the drive, we have also found that even new (so called, but probably re-firbed) drives that are the correct spec do not all work for some reason. Frustrating......

You will also want to have the power supply rebuilt if not already as these were failing (bum capacitors) and taking the main board with them (I know as it happened to me). Have not heard of any reports of failures on units that had the PS's rebuilt (all caps removed and replaced with upgraded ones, i.e. as done by FT Worth Audio).
