Default MDA1000 question

Does anyone know why a 24bit Flac file would not work from MS300 to the MDA? I also downloaded the same Flac but in 16 bits to the MS300 and it works through the MDA.

Serge.......I just read the MDA1000 owner's manual, and found nothing about 16bit or 24bit data. On the specifications page the stated sampling frequencies are 96kHz. 48kHz, 44.1kHz, and 32kHz, but nothing about bit rate.

I am guessing here, but Redbook specifications are based solely on 16bit word lengths, so pehaps in adherence to the Redbook specs the MDA1000 will not accept a 24bit word length.

I have my server upconverting to 96 with no problem, but that is hardware controlled. I have set it for 24 bit output, but that was software controlled. I did notice a switchover when I changed the setting and did get some nicer sound. The MDA does not tell me if it is receiving 24bit, only 96khz.

Perhaps the MS300 cannot output the 24bit signal?

Good point. Serge, perhaps you can try it from your computer to the MDA to see if that works.

Update:

Thank's to howie's blue coast records webpage that had actual 24/96 WAV file downloads, I was able to test.

The MDA1K WILL see a 24/96 signal and process it - NICELY. It seems that the MS300 cannot output the 24bit signal.

Thanks for the info! I wonder if Sonos will be able to stream that to the MDA?

I read somewhere that SonoS is limited to 16Bit at this time. I will see if I can find it.
