Default Mc252

I have been listening to my system the past few weeks actually thinking to myself, that I don't need anything to sound any better then it does now. I have my MC252 for sale due mostly to some expectation that a pair of MC501's will be even better. The truth is that I am very happy now.

The MC252 is a fantastic sounding amp., a amazing bang for your buck. As one of the "entry level" Mcintosh solid state amps. it has a warm yet detailed sound that is very enjoyable. I sometimes sit for 5 hours listening only to be disappointed that I can't keep listening. The MC252, C220, MCD500 with SF speakers is a outstanding combo. Anyone on the fence about this amp., don't be it is a fantastic amp.

Does that mean you don't want 501s?

I am just concerned it's going to be like the speaker cable comparison I did yesterday and I don't want to jerk you around . It the difference is like going from my MVP861 to the MCD500 then its a done deal .

Consider it a done deal.

If I had the space I would dump the 402 and go 501's.

Well, I can hear a difference rather easily between the two. I can't guarantee you that you will. :sorry: You know what they say "don't try to fix what ain't broke". Also, you won't miss what you don't know".... Maybe you should just keep things the way they are in your system and listen more.

David,

You are right about this - I sometimes sit for 5 hours listening only to be disappointed that I can't keep listening. The MC252, C220, MCD500 with SF speakers is a outstanding combo.

I am thinking though, the 501s would take you to a new level.

I will play the part of your wife here - Just do what you want!

Default U R in the LOVE ZONE

David,

You, and your system, are in what I call "The Audio Love Zone" - I have to write a cogent post about that concept one of these days. In the meantime, I'll try to summarize ...

Briefly, The Zone is that magical place where you and your system/room are in harmony and very happy with each other. You can do better, of course, but you could easily live with the system/sound you have now without regrets for a looooong time. How do you know you are in The Audio Love Zone?

- You look forward to your listening sessions.
- You wish your listening sessions were longer and hate to turn the system off.
- You know your system is not perfect, but it sounds great to you. There are no glaring faults - not too bright, not too thin, not too warm, ..., it feels just right.
- You stop thinking and lusting about other components/systems.

It feels a lot like romantic LOVE - in the sense that you know your mate is not perfect, but you still lover her. There are - for sure - prettier, smarter, funnier, etc., women out there. But you don't care. You have found YOUR love and you have lost interest in other women. You miss your woman when you are not with her, and you don't want your time with her to end.

It does not mean that you can't admire and talk about other systems/women, but you do it with the full knowledge that you have already found something that - even if not perfect - makes you happy and feels like a part of you.

That's the way I feel about my system, and it took me a while to understand why I lost interest in changing anything from what I have now. The love analogy made the most sense to me. They say that love is blind. In this case, audio love might be deaf - because, even though I know I MIGHT improve the sound, I don't think I can love another system as much as this.

It took me many years, and many "dates" to find true love, but my McIntosh + Sonus Faber combo are looking forward to celebrating our first anniversary soon .

... and about the 501s. Just think about them as giving your love a boob job! It's still her - just more of her to love.

Yours truly,

Alberto
