jd,

I understand what you are saying, as i stated before, my org preamp was my shindo montbrison, and I have to tell you, everything you just said about the c1000p, the shindo was like that, with not only my 501 but any amp. but, I wanted to go all mcintosh and the 2300 offered me a true pass through and more bells and whis. (the shindo is just a point to point wire, nothign more then two knobs thats it) so thats why i changed. Now I am very h appy, but there is a difference. I also have to admit, since I got rid of my dali helicons mk2, and was blessed with my totem winds, I came very close to getting that sound of the shindo with the 501s. I might really have to look into this, though its hard because this is something i would want to demo in my system for a while, and no one has it. so you are saying to go with the 1000 not the 500?

thanks,
lenny

Itleo,
I did a comparison of the C2200, MCD500 direct (preamp-less) and the C500t which I will be reposting tomorrow here at AA, which you might find interesting. Thats the tube version of the C500 preamp that Dan and Serge own. Dan said it all - its really up to you and your personal preference. These days, I am enjoying tube preamp (C500t)on solid state amps (MC501s) I hope you live in an area where it is possible to audition different gear. Listening with music you know and love is essential. Good luck! Ted.

Lenny.......No, that's not what I am saying. I answered your question from the previous post using the C1000 as my example. As I told you earlier, the C500 has been reviewed as providing the C1000 sound without the added C1000 features, and at a substantial price savings. Since I have only heard the C500T tube preamp one time at a dealer show room, I cannot make a definitive comparison for you with the C1000P. I was attempting to describe what is possible with a fully balanced McIntosh solid state preamp, which includes the C500P and the C1000P, mated to the MC501 amps. If you have the financial resources to choose either one, grab the C1000P. You will be thrilled with the performance. If you want be in the same catagory with a few less features, take advantage of the C500P's remarkable price verses performance value. That's what I am saying.

Lenny, Shindo to McIntosh? That is an interesting move. Shindo caters to a different crowd. That's like trading a Corvette for a Lexus. Both good cars but very different from each other.
