Magnapan MGIIIa Hardwood Frame Rebuild
I thought some of the members might enjoy this review of my Magnapan MGIIIa rebuild. Here is a short accounting of the rebuild:
1. Replaced MDF Frames with Maple Hardwood 2. Replaced all wiring and rewired for Active Tri Amping 3. Replaced the Connectors with Gold Plated 5 way binding Posts 4. Replaced stock stand with custom built stand w/bracing and isolation spikes (not shown in the pic's) I am using the following to power the MGIIIa's: Crossovers - Behringer DCX2496, CX2310 for Sub out Preamp - Acurus RL11 Power amps - Acurus A200 (2) Acurus A200 X3 The Acurus A200's power the Bass Panels and the Ribbon Tweeter The Acurus A200X3 Powers the Midrange Panels and the third channel powers the NHT W2 Subs (2) Set up temporarily in a smaller room the improvements over the stock MGIIIa's bi-amped is: Better defined sound stage with more depth, less congestion in the upper mid/lower ribbon response, more and better defined bass especially in the mid to upper Hz region w/more body. Absolutely better control on complex Classical passages, and driving Rock passages. I am running the subs from 42Hz down. I should have the sound room in the basement finished in a few weeks, and can't wait to get them moved down and setup in a better environment. It took about a total of 30 hours to complete the rebuild, and I must say was well worth it. Regards, Jim
