Default Montrachet

Hello,

I'm interested in the Montrachet amp. I saw different models of the amp...

...so I asked me some questions

1) Which one is the newer model?

2) Do they sound different - If yes - In which way?

3) Which power? 30W or 40W? Found both answers in the internet :-( Which is true?

Would be great if someone can help me :-)

Best regards

Michael

Michael:
If you are looking at a new model, then I would go by what is posted on the Shindo Labs Japanese website. From there: ultra 30w. Having said, things may be slightly different, in minor detaiils, in what you actually receive. Again, it is about the flavor of the amp and what you are driving...I am sure that others can provide more information for you...
Best, jdk

Michael7- I don't know the answer to your specific question, but it has me curious as to one thing. The Montrachet, Haut Brion, and Cortese all in the 10-11K range. Why not use your energy to decide which one of these you like. I am sure the differences between them are greater than an update.... So what led you to considering the Montrachet ? Cheers -Don

I like warm, vivid and rich sound. The Montrachet should sound like that as i red.

I need a litte more power for my speaker Genesis V with 90db

so the Montrachet with 30-40W should play them.

Cortese 10W can be little bit too less power?

The Haut Brion 20W could work......

Whats the difference between the Haut Brion and the Montrachet? I think I need at least 20W or more...

pre is Monbrison and Wadia 860X cdp

I gotcha. Not being familiar with your speaker, I can't help you there. I would ask a dealer about the Montrachet pairing w/ your speaker. If you can go mono, the CC 80's or CCQ could also be good options. Of course, with these you jump up to another price level.

Hi Michael,
don't make the mistake to not consider changing your speaker and go for a systemic approach.
90dB doesn't tell you which impedance loads your speaker is asking for. If it goes down to 2 Ohm, it won't do good to your amp, even if 30 W are considered sufficient.
I once paired a Montrachet (old model) with Sonus Faber Cremona M (91dB). It worked well at low volume, but when I swapped them for a combo of Cortese and a wide-range speaker (96dB, 16 Ohm), there was no more going back!

4 Ohm is far from optimal, even for the Montrachet.
You could try the LM 755 Alnico, for instance. http://www.auditorium23.de/755_Messung/Messung.html
I use speakers that are out of production, using a customized PHY-HP H21LB15. Pure joy.
