Do you think MR87 still available to order new ?
Wanna buy one before it is no longer in production.

They are checking with factory now. Expect 2-3 days for answer.

The MR87 has not been discontinued. It is available. If it were discontinued it would be because parts are no longer available. The newer tuner would not be as nice. The MR87 is a real specialty piece and is only made after an order is placed and you can expect probably a 6 month waiting time between order placed and order shipped. I have this on reliable authority.

So if you want one you better order it now.

Best

Charles

p.s. this information is not coming from a dealer.

That is what I worried. The availability of old chips can be problematic.

But as you said, I placed an order today, price unknown.
Because dealer can’t give me price until they know that
They can really order one for me at this time, no one has requested to buy this in quite a long time that they really
Have no idea about availability.

They said if they ever can get one , expect 3-4 months.

If not for the Mcintosh look, I would go Accuphase T1200 as I believe it has more modern circuit design.

Toga, it's not just Mac. All manufactures are experiencing the lack of parts. Mac will continue to have replacement parts for the MR87. I believe you will receive your tuner (MR87). Just be clear with your dealer that the order is placed and that Mac has the order. I think you will be well satisfied with the MR87. Because of Mac's status with suppliers, you will receive your tuner relatively quickly. Because the demand is rare, Mac doesn't have one setting on the shelf. They must build it.

As for the "look". I wouldn't consider another tuner personally. IMO, the MR87 is the finest of the Mac tuners. Even if it is eventually discontinued, it will become a classic very sought after piece. I believe Accuphase a fine company. But they change models too frequently for my taste.

Two thumbs up.

It feel so special when I know it is made to order basis. But is totally lack of economy of scale I think.
I remember reading TONE Magazine reviewed MR88 long
Time ago and was telling MSRP. 4000$, so I was a bit of
Shock to know that MR87 is now $5,000.

Regarding Accuphase. I really do agree that they will
Run out of model numbers soon. But actually recently,
I saw C2500-2600-2700 in short time span too. Or is it
Time that flies too fast ? I became a true audiophile in 2007 and I was proud to be young, 30 something, among others. Look at me now. Approaching 50 in a few years.
Looking back Accuphase introduced new model in 5 years which was not terribly short time. Luckily the policy is similar to Mc that all models must look alike and can be
Placed together beautifully.

Toga.

Toga, from what I understand Mc makes units in batches. Items that do less volume, which I suspect the MR87 is one of those, will be made less often and presumably in smaller batches. I've seen many posts over the years in here where people order an item and Mc tells them the next production date for that piece is X weeks away. I'm sure the wait will be worth it once your MR87 arrives.

Is it likely the next Mc tuner will once again include the ability to pull in HD channels?
