Dave.......Thanks, and yes better air flow. When turned sideways as I originally installed them, the front MC75 was blocked from the air flow by the two big transformers on the amp that was behind it. This is the better way to go.

That is one sweet setup Dan....I like that you can see both amps now. It makes lots of sense too, as you pointed out on the air flow aspect. Nice move...I can't wait to hear those babies!

Great amplifiers.
Congratulations.

It would cool if McIntosh would offer mirror image amplifiers for symmetry purposes.

Not that it should matter to you, Dan, but I like the side by side look better. They should also be a little bit easier to clean.

Just a kind of random thought. But in looking at your tube replacements, we had a discussion about this years back on a related MC75 MKII thread. That number one tube position, where the 12AX7 is located, I don't think that tube is in the signal path or otherwise "used" when you're in the BAL/XLR mode.

Long and short, I don't think you need to bother upgrading to an expensive GL tube there if you're going to operate exclusively in the BAL/XLR mode. For myself, I experimented between an uber-expensive Telefunken ECC803S and the stock McIntosh branded tube that came with it and couldn't tell a difference. My point is, you could save that nice GL 12AX7 for another project if you're so inclined.

Anyhow, beautiful set up you have going. Love it!

On a tangent, there have been those on this thread questioning why the MC75 is still listed on the McIntosh website. As an owner, I can say that from time to time I refer back to the McIntosh website if I need a quick refresher from the Owners Manual or some such thing. I could dig that out of my storage folders but it's easier to just pull it up online. Since these amps are relatively recent, it's nice to have the resources immediately available online. I think it enhances their commitment to customer support. It recalls the axiom, Customer Service Begins After the Sale. I like it.

Dan, the amps are gorgeous and the installation perfect. Sometimes things really do work out. You got exactly the amp you wanted!

Two big burly guys carried the amps upstairs, packed the MC452, and were gone in less than 30 minutes. It did not take long for me to have the shipping cartons opened and the MC75 amplifiers displaying their charms. These are beautiful amplifiers, built like a Sherman tank, typical McIntosh attention to detail. Both amplifiers are in absolute mint condition, not a blemish or a scratch to be found anywhere. I couldn't be happier.

It took me about an hour to get both amplifiers installed after retubing them with Gold Lion KT-88 and ECC83/12AX7, and Siemens ECC801S/12AT7 tubes. John suggested I install them stock and then incrementally change tubes, add Wireworld Silver Electra power cables, and then add the Furutech Flux 50's. My enthusiasm overruled that idea as soon as I had them out of their cartons. Both MC75's are sporting the full enchillada. I couldn't hold myself back. I installed the two MC75's sideways in the rack, one in front of the other. There are two Cooler Guys fans installed on the back of the rack to pull warm air out of the rack cavity so the amps should have a long and healthy lifespan. In the future I may try orienting the amps 90 degrees so that the power cords and Flux 50's go directly out the back of the rack. It was a tight squeeze to get the Flux 50's and the Wireworld Silver Electra power cable installed as they presently sit. I do like looking at the tubes, but this arrangement obscures viewing the second amplifier. Time will determine what installation angle I eventually settle on.

The sound, goodness gracious, the sound. The system has been playing for two hours now and I am already thoroughly bonded with the MC75's. The sound is delicious, flowing, liquid gold to my ears, and the new tubes aren't broken in yet. No complaints with what I am hearing, only a big smile. The MC75's are wonderful. I should have bought a pair two years ago before McIntosh ended production. Being late to the party is still very cool. Color me starstruck.

Congrats! They look awesome!
