Found Memories

Just looking at these JBL L100 speakers brings back a flood of fond memories. I have had many great times with a pair of L100's cranking out the music. These just sold on Agon for $350.00.

Dan, Like yourself many great memories for me with the JBL line. I've owned the L36 , L100 and the 4311 Studio Monitors. I wish I still had them.

Dan....These appear to be L100A's, identical to the pair I once owned. I too wish I still had them. Such memories indeed.....

Back in the day, the mere sight of a pair of L100's at someone's home generated serious audio lust, especially if you didn't own a pair yet. My old MA230 integrated amp made my old pair of L100's sing. Come to think of it, the MA5100 and JBL 4312A's I have now rock pretty good together, even today.

What did they retail for back in the day?

Serge.......If I remember correctly, it was $700.00 a pair. That was in the early 70's.

Running numbers on the inflation calculator, that is approximately $3564 in today's dollars. Not much by today's standards but probably a lot of money back then when the audiophiles have not yet lost their minds and wallets.

And they probably still compete well with todays $700 speakers if they are rebuilt.

Back in 1972, having $700 of spare cash to plunk down on a pair of JBL L100's was a big deal for a young man like myself. Talk about scrimp and save.

Dan....sounds about right. I bought mine in 1977, and by then I believe they were up to about $800 per pair.

I sold my L100's in 1982 for $350, including the pair of JBL stands I had acquired. In 2005, the fellow I sold them to sold the stands back to me for $20. He still has my old L100's and loves them.

To this day I wish I still had my classic L100's, but at the time I needed the money to help buy my L220's, which at that time (1982) retailed at $1000 each. I was really lucky and icked up a pair of demonstrators for $550 each.
They still reside in my main system.

Serge....using the inflation calculator, what would a pair of speakers that retailed at $1000 each in 1982 cost today?
