Please keep us updated on this rare anomaly. If thumping was only happening with the phonostage I am surprised you now are hearing nothing from one
Channel.

Did you also change the line stage tubes? With you completely losing the left channel I would check your line stage tubes. If you do not have a tester swap the L and R line stage tubes to check if the right channel will then be inaudible.

When I got the preamp I swapped out all of the tubes and had no issues for 2 months.I then began getting the thumping noise only on the mc Phonostage.I posted on a couple of audio sites and was recommended to try changing tubes.
I unhooked the 2 din cables with the preamp in standby and quickly realized what I had done and unplugged it.I swapped out tubes , leaving what I call tube dampers off the phonostage tubes and top off as I put the preamp back in my rack and hooked everything up.Everything played fine and I let it play for 30-45 mins.I unplugged the power cord from the preamp and then put the dampers back and the top back on.I then hooked everything back up and that is when the left channel stopped working. My issue seems to be with the preamp and not my controller as I swapped the c and d cables and the left side is still not working. I have purchased a c-1000p preamp from Audio Classics and when it comes in I plan on hooking it up and that way I will know for sure that it is the preamp. I had a C-1000p &C-1000t years ago and I liked the flexibility to swap between tube and solid state. I will double check everything again and if the tube section needs service I will send it to audio classics and still be able to use my preamp with the solid state piece. |
