Received my pair of Reference 9 K in cherry today. And had an opportunity to audition them at ridiculous volume levels in the shop's showroom for an hour. Even without breaking in everyone was impressed (T+A electronics).

Will post my impressions later (after proper installing and burning-in). There are lots. But some quick info here.

Look - beautiful. And they smashed available PMC, Chario and Cabasse speakers in comparison. Bass is ridiculous, considering speaker size (no problem to make a concert in a huge room). I've never seen membranes dancing with such an amplitude in a monitor speaker. They solve very diffucult moments, that I always thought was distorsion in the record ("sand", "scream", "mess" etc.). Burning-in effect was obvious even inside that hour of listening. The soundstage is, well .. THE SOUNDSTAGE. Endless.

Another happy user here

As for the photos - I don't know, if I'm allowed to post photos or links here? Maybe some links that are not active (without http:// ) is an option?

Congrats on the new Canton's. I completely agree, they're just plain amazing. If you want to really hear what they're made of I'd suggest these two CD's

https://www.amazon.com/Standing-Safe.../dp/B000002LU0

This release is OOP, but they're no shortage of excellent condition used ones. Gospel music, but notwithstanding, astounding voice work.
This acapella release is beautifully recorded and really strains a speakers ability to cope from the low end to the high range. It's loaded with micro-detail that makes it a beautifully rendered work.

Then try this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Demo...nstration+disc

The point of this release pretty much speaks for itself, but it's a mid '90's Chesky release, so very well presented.

Let us know how they burn in over time.

FreddieFerric, thanks for your links! I'll try to find these.

The speakers are breaking-in now, so not much critical listening yet. Some thoughts without serious listenings.

The tonal balance seems to be very uniform in any point of my room. Never experienced that with classic speakers (not omnidiractional). It's really comfortable for everyone in a room.

Another point is about sound pressure (volume...). Well, that's where I'm really surprised. I can not tell which volume is used at a given period of time. It never seems to be loud. The sound is effortless and not disturbing. On the paper my old Vento 802 have the same sensitivity, but that new pair of Reference 9 K can be playd 3-4 db higher with the same perceived loudness.

And it's LOW volume, that is espessially interesting. In the evening, playing very quiet. Everything is there! Bass, soundstage, clarity. No tonal balance changes too. Even dynamics is there.

When a current model ten years ago the list was 30k. By the time they made it to places in the US like Amazon and A4L about half that.

Such a great review. So sad that Wes Phillips has passed on.
