Looks fantastic Dan! Glad to hear there were noticeable improvements in sound. I have a widescreen TV in the center of my system as well. I'm definitely going to try the same application.

Paul.......You will be impressed with the added clarity and focus of your sound stage. Taking that big flat reflective surface out of the equation proved to be a good move. With my hanger system the panel is easy to place and remove as needed.

Dan, congratulations on a well-done and attractive solution. That location within a room isn't top-of-mind when thinking about acoustics (behind and above the speakers), but your experience and the illustrations above are a useful lesson.

Paul.......For those who have followed my recording studio adventure from 2005 when I built the two room plus half bath addition to my home, it is easy to watch the transition that the studio side opposite the control room side has gone through. When first built and wired the studio side was strictly conceived as a live microphone recording room. All walls are wired with balanced jacks back to the control room side for microphones and headphones. The front two JBL LSR6332 3-way monitors up on the wall were for studio playback of what had been recorded. Initially there was no television in this room. Then I added a smaller widescreen TV just to have one in the room, no surround sound, just the TV. The room was filled with guitar amplifiers and speaker cabinets, guitars and microphones everywhere.

For the first few years after I retired I used the recording studio exclusively for recording live music. After a few years of doing that I gradually did less and less to the point of adding a modest two channel sound system. Then I bought the larger widescreen and added a surround sound system in the room as the studio morphed from a place where live recording was being performed to a place just to hang out, listen to music and watch movies. The rest is history as the transition continued over the next seven years to what you see today. I said that to let you know the widescreen was in place well before I began to build the sound system to the level it is today. Consequently I have to work with what I have in place. So far so good.

Great installation. I'm getting close to making the same move myself so you have provided good advice as well as inspiration. Thanks!

I also purchased from AcoustiMac when I built my listening room. I bought Owens 703 & 705 and hangers for wall mounting them.
They were the least expensive I found for material with the exception of the Guilford of Maine fabric I covered them with.

For anyone building their own panels I would suggest the Guilford of Maine products. When stretching the fabric on a frame the texture of it is such your can install it in any direction and it looks the same. If you have ever tried to stretch a fabric with a pattern, it is a pain.

Hi Dan,

Looks great. I am looking into covering my flat screen, but they tell me the panel will weigh 23 pounds. Does that seem correct?

Jeff.......My Acoustic Art panel covers a 55" widescreen TV. It has 2 inches thick Owens-Corning 703 insulation behind the acoustic art fabric. I just weighed the panel. It is 13.5 lbs. Depending on the size panel you want and the thickness of the insulation 22 lbs. doesn't sound out of the ordinary.

Dan, I love the image!

Funny I downloaded some Autumn pics for my MacBook Pro and there is one that is similar to yours.

Its a very tasteful and soothing scene. Well done Dan!

Tim.......Thank you. I was looking for something that drew my attention each time I looked at it. That scene with the path through the autumn colored trees causes me to daydream about strolling down that path. It has been up for a year and a half already with the exception of when I'm watch a movie. I like it today as much as I did the first day I hung it over the widescreen.
