FYI: EMM Labs currently does not make mono blocks...or amps of any sort for that matter.

Quote:
Both Wilson Audio and Vivid Audio speakers are utterly transparent to upstream components. A single wrong cable (wrong by its sonic signature) can totally ruin a demo. At the opposite, with well balanced and transparent partners these G2's or Alexia's will really sing like few other speakers can do. I don't know enough the Alexia to comment precisely but between my Sasha's and the G2's, the Vivid model is slighly more 'uniform' in its frequency balance and also more transparent. But the Sasha's, and all Wilson speakers in general, are more 'lively', such as when being in front of the stage. Sent from my iPhone using A.Aficionado

As I stated earlier, I think this is going to be an ever-growing problem in high-end audio; most dealers can't afford to have a pair of Alexias, Maxx 3s or XLFs in their showroom that they shuttle around (not to mention high-end electronics, yet another story), but who aside from the ultra-wealthy is going to purchase a pair without the opportunity to demo them in their own home with their components? Sure, any decent dealer will offer you a "you can return it if you don't like it" deal, but if it's a dealer you like and hope to do business with again, do you really want to leave them on the hook with a pair of slightly used $45K+ speakers they'll need to try and sell?
I love my Giya G2s and would buy them all over again, but who knows what I'd actually own had I been able to demo Alexias in-home? Last edited by BillK; 10-11-2013 at 08:20 PM. |

By the looks of RMAF 2013, it appears that I'm quite wrong about this.

Yes, EMM had a set of prototype monoblocs playing. The guy doing the demo said they were 400lbs. EACH!
