Default Goodbye Craftsman ..............

Can more store closings be far behind ?

http://www.philly.com/philly/busines...html?mobi=true

I suspect Craftsman and Kenmore are all that have them afloat as of late ?

Dave.......Yep, and I saw yesterday that Macy's is closing 56 stores nationwide after dismal holiday sales. In the words of Bob Dylan, "The times they are a changing."

Craftsman really started it's decline when they started making tools in China. You can now buy the same quality tools at Harbor Freight with the same lifetime Warranty. Plus they never did make British Whitworth tools. What about my poor Norton!

I hope my local Macy's doesn't close or I will have to find another Jewelry shop for December 21-23 every year.

To the best of my knowledge Craftsman doesn't mfg anything rather they market a product under their name (like Radio Shack). I agree the 'base' Craftsman tools as of late are pretty much junk (like Harbor Frt) but their 'professional' branded tools are actually quite good. I think they were being produced by Matco but that may have changed.

It's up to whichever repairman I call to worry about where he buys his tools.

In fact, Craftsman did make Whitworth. I bought several sets of Whitworth sockets and wrenches in the 60s to do repairs on my 1955 BSA A10. Unfortunately they were stolen along with multiple sets of "old" Craftsman SAE and metrics about 5 years ago. The quality of the recent Craftsman is not good, IMO.

I did not know that. I started collecting tools in the late 1970's. They were long gone by then. Luckily I still have most of the tools I collect over the years.
