Rega RP10 & Aphelion cartridge

I'm in a position to do some upgrading and have been thinking about upgrading my Rega P9 and Sumiko Celebration II cartridge. I like the aesthetics of the P9 with its wood surround, so I talked to my dealer about swapping out the RB1000 arm for the RB2000 and trying Rega's new Aphelion, their top cartridge. The cartridge goes for about $5k and the tonearm for $2200. My dealer told me that the RB2000 would require modifying the plinth (larger hole) and came back with an offer for an RP10 table with Aphelion cartridge for $6500 with trade-in of my P9 and Celebration. I'm very, very tempted. Does anyone have any experience with the Aphelion or the RP10? Any other thoughts?

Tony.......The Rega P10 with the new RB2000 tonearm and the Aphelion 2 moving coil cartridge looks like a sweet vinyl rig. Just so you know, the P10 / RB2000 and Aphelion 2 cartridge can be purchased from Music Direct as a package for $6695.00 with free shipping. You'd be better off to buy from Music Direct and sell your P9 / RB1000 / Sumiko Celebration II yourself. Considering Music Direct's price, your dealer is only allowing you $195.00 for your trade. Doesn't seem like a good deal to me.

Dan, you're looking at the Apheta II cartridge, not the Aphelion. Music Direct has the Aphelion for $4995 and doesn't offer it bundled with the table. So on MD, the cartridge plus table lists for $10,490.

Thanks Ivan, I really appreciate it, but as long as the price is reasonable I feel obliged to work with the local guy. He's done a lot of work for me and will deliver and set up the table, and help me do a fresh set on my speakers while he's at it (made some changes to the room recently). He's offering me $1k off the list as a bundle price, plus an additional discount he hasn't worked out yet (he'll probably give me another 10%, he usually does). He's also offering $3k on the trade, but price is the same if I decide to sell on my own or he'll take it on consignment for no charge. Sound reasonable?
