You might consider the Rega Planar 6 with Ania cartridge as well, $2200 all-in.

Also, check with SoundStage in Doylestown. They have a trade-in program that might work.
I have been in touch with Seth and Jay at SoundStage. That's where I buy my vinyl.

I've never actually heard a Rega as the dealers near me didn't carry them.

Hmmm........... thought SoundStage was a Rega dealer. They have several Rega models listed on their website (though, like going for the VPI Prime as opposed to the Scout, would stretch my budget a bit and go for the RP8 as opposed to the RP6). Overture also has any number of TT/TA/cartridge set-ups on the floor at any given time. You could check them out.

You could do this one step at a time. Go for the VPI or Rega or whatever and listen with your current cartridge and preamp. Then think about an upgrade of the cartridge and/or preamp after you know the TT/TA combo. You could join us for one of SE PA get-togethers in the fall. We are do mostly vinyl and I'll bring along a Ray Samuels F-117 you can compare to your Project. We would also have a few cartridges to listen to so you can get some ideas on MCs compared to your MM.

Soundstage is a Rega dealer, but they're an hour away. I see that Overture is a Rega dealer. I must have been in the market for something else and never noticed the turntables. I got my current table at Quest For Sound.

Keep in mind that Rega arms are not fully adjustable, you cannot adjust for azimuth by just rotating the arm pipe, like you can on your mmf-5.1. You have to use shims if you find during setup it is off.

If you delve into higher end MC carts or carts with line contact stylus, azimuth is a critical adjustment.

Have fun!

I Like my Music Hall 9.1 very much.It came with a Goldring Eroica LX cart which now is on my Dual 604.I then put a Dynavector 20x2L on it and now I have a Benz micro Glider low on it.This tt was in my budget and to me sounds good/great with every cart I have had on it.The 9.3 should be better? Cheers

I've eliminated the Rega RP6 from the mix because of the lack of VTA. I like the VPI but would have to shell out another $300 for a dust cover so I'll scratch that one also. I hated to do that because there is a cherry Scoutmaster on the "gon" for $1900. It was setup, but never used. Sound Stage is willing to give me a nice price on my trade-in, so I can up the anti a little or put that towards a vinyl cleaner.

Cleanliness is one of the keys to good sound with LPs.
Unfortunately, almost none of the better TTs come with a dustcover these days. As you've discovered, they can be expensive.
I use one of these http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=AVAS600 with my VPI and am quite pleased with it.

Jack, save your $$ so as to stretch your budget a bit, I'm serious, having recently listened to the combination I suggested earlier it's worth every penny and this is coming from someone who has more that 3 times that in his vinyl rig.
