I just got home about an hour and a half ago. I unboxed it and got it hooked up. I have the video HDMI going directly to my TV and the audio set to bitstream going to my Bryston SP3. It came with a firmware update right out of the box they just burned onto a CDR. I ran the update, set the settings to match my 105D's audio settings, and set the video to 4k HDR.

I played around quickly with a couple of non-4k movies, and they seem to look quite a bit better on the UDP-203 vs my "old" BDP-105D. I tried out The Hobbit which I just watched about a week ago with my son and I could tell a distinct difference in the picture. After that I tried out the Deadpool 4k Blu-ray, but only got through the first 10 minutes. It's absolutely mind blowing how good the picture and sound are.

That's all for now.

And to whoever mentioned the lack of netflix and streaming, it's worth it without it. A Roku is only a couple hundred bucks and can be hooked into the HDMI input for ease of use.

phishphan, I am glad the 203 is meeting or exceeding your expectations. It is a beautiful unit. You make me reconsider sending mine back but I don't like using my Roku as much as my 105 and the Roku still can't do Tidal.

I have had mine for a week, and the HD picture is amazingly good. I watched Mad Max Fury Road in 4K, and it was a whole new movie. I ordered Oblivion and Lucy in 4K for this weekend.

I could care less about streaming, and didn't even realize that it was not supported.

IMHO this Oppo unit should offer streaming... That is quite the bummer to hear this news...
My current Oppo unit streams movies and my wife and I use it... Wish Oppo would reconsider this option...
And I personally do not want to buy add ons to get it what I already have it in my current Oppo unit... Seams like a step backwards to me...

Be patient and it will be added. I guess many of you have forgotten when the 103/105 was first released and all of the updates that were added after it was introduced? The older players did streaming, there is nothing preventing Oppo from adding these features later.

When I spoke with Oppo, before I returned my 203, they told me the 203 and 205 would not be able to do streaming and that it was a benefit since you could add your own streamer and update it whenever you want. I will wait for the 205 to come out to see if it at least has 2 HDMI inputs so I can still connect my cable box and a Roku player if that is the only way to get TV and Netflix through the Oppo. The 203 only has one HDMI input. The 103 and 105 both have 2.

The new Oppo 4k player actually has built in WiFi.

Page 19 of owner's manual:

"A built-in wireless module is installed in the UDP-203. The wireless module is compatible with 802.11A, B, G, N (2.4GHz and 5GHz) and 802.11 AC (5GHz) wireless networks."

In my home I find a wired connection to work much better and faster than a WiFi connection. Since the 203 and 205 don't stream, I hope the 205 will at least have 2 or 3 HDMI inputs. My 103 and 105 have 2 but the 203 only has one.
