Signed CD (Also available on LP)   We just attended a concert with these 3 masters of jazz. An event that easily comes in my top 10 of jazz concerts ever. All three had original ideas in abundance. Never a dull moment. Joey always smiling while doing his magic, attentive. Bram, a youngster still, but oh so intelligent. Check his albums on Tidal or Qobuz. Robin, brilliant in building up his lines.

The Modern Jazz Quartet - The Last Concert  Pieces like 'Django' are the jazz equivalent from works of Bach and Mozart in classical music. You keep loving them, even if you have heard them 500 times...

Boss-girl and I are in the middle of watching the "Jazz" documentary by Ken Burns from c. 2001. She's a great fan of jazz, and this has helped tie some threads together and understand its roots as well as many of the influences on the music.
I recently finished two books by Ted Gioia, "The history of Jazz" and "How to Listen to Jazz", both highly recommended. However, for her the documentary has been more helpful with the visuals, especially as someone who grew up behind the bamboo curtain (can you imagine coming to US in 1992 as a young adult and having no idea who the Beatles or Stones are?).
