I am confused on which op-amps to order, this is what I have read thus far:

Bill suggested the 2107 / 627

I have read tons of positive review on the 2604/ 827 combo

Bill told me his favorite combo it the Discrete Dexa

I have read that the Discretes sound a bit veiled.

The Discrets are also 3 times the price. I don't mind spending the $,but don't want to end up making the wrong choice.

I had/tried close to all the combinations that Doug tried in the Dagogo review. I ended up with the OPA2604 and AD797B combo. I never tried the Dexa op-amps.

Sorry, you'll just need to decide and jump head first. I was looking for a certain kind of sound, (i.e. more analog like). The 2604/797 sound was what I was looking for.

I understand your confusion. I went through this same thing a year ago. I can say that once I was done, I probably haven't enjoyed a component more than this DAC, and I have owned a butt-load of gear.

Can you please discribe the Analog sound? Compared to the stock EE DAC plus with the tube pulled.

Default Dexa opamps and Psvane tube with upgraded output capacitors

This combo in the tube mode equals many 3k modern contenders, just A/B'ed this modded edition with the PS Audio PWD mkII and I still like this EE.

Default Siemens 12AU7 silver plate is a good choice

I'm running my EE MiniMax Plus with a Siemens silver plate 12AU7 with good results--it sounds better than the SS section in my system.

Default Tweek of Pulling the Tube in the EE MiniMax Plus

I tried the tweek of pulling the tube out--it does improve the dynamics of the sound. Tube and SS used to sound about the same in my system before a WW Silver Electra PC into a WW Matrix power strip upgrade. Now, I prefer the sound of the tube section with a Siemens silver plate 12AU7 over the SS section. Haven't tried a discrete SS upgrade though.
