Congrats Tony!
I just picked up an ARC Ref2se phono, in black. I'm looking forward to give it a listen over the holidays. I'll be very interested to hear your impressions. The 508 was not really on my radar, but now, after doing a bit of reading on it, maybe it should have been. Best of luck with it, and Happy Holidays to ya!

I have a Ref 2 SE.

The 508 was good, but didn’t come close to the sound quality of the ARC.

I never tried the 1008 phono stage but my dealer felt it would come closer or surpass the Ref 2 SE.

I had the ARC Ref Phono 2SE and the Boulder 1008 -- kept the 1008 and sold the ARC Ref Phono 2SE. They are both outstanding phonostages and there is no wrong choice, just that after a while, I decided I liked the dead quiet and total control of the 1008 better than the tube sound of the ARC. On first listen, I preferred the ARC.

That's why I am awaiting the opportunity to hear the forthcoming 1108 phono stage.

I didn't audition the 1008 because I knew the 1108 was coming soon.

Awesome Tony, what made you go with the Boulder?

I went back and forth between the Boulder, the Zesto, and the new Rega Aura. I finally decided on the Boulder because of the simplicity of the design (no adjustable settings, only one set of inputs and outputs), the small form factor, the fully balanced design, and the solid aluminum casework. I figured with the new Momentum pre on the way, balanced was the way to go.

The fact that my local guy is a Boulder dealer helped as well. He’s been doing right by me for 15 years now so I listen to his advice and try to work with him when possible.

I loved the look of the Zesto and what I heard of it in Denver, but finally decided that it was the cool looks that had hooked me as much as anything, and the Boulder was a more practical option for my limited-space setup.

Congrats Tony!

Just read a bit about the company.
