You certainly seem to have a nice system. Do you have some pics of it?

As there was some suggestion that all McIntosh DAC's may behave in this manner I listened to both Beatles songs last night (do not have "Highway to Hell"). There was NO cut off of the 1-2-3-4 or initial cords using both USB or Toslink inputs. Source was an Apple laptop with Amarra, DAC was the internal of the C 2500.
Thanks for playing John! I think the idea that this exact problem effects all McIntosh DACs is simply not true. I say this because of the reports of others, and because I owned a McIntosh c2500, and used the DAC all the time without these issues. It did have an issue with locking up from time to time, but that could be alleviated by a power cycle. The c2500 DAC is great, but it is also a simpler solution, as it only deals with PCM. All their newer stuff is handling both PCM and DSD signals, which can complicate things a bit. BTW, I never ever used JRiver either when I had my c2500, and it worked fine.

On a bright note, somebody on the Roon forums had the same problem with his c2600 and he said it was fixed with a firmware update that allowed the user to turn off the muting behavior in the menu. Hopefully, we will see something similar in the d1100.

I'm running my D1100 using my MCD1100 as a transport. Play SACD through its DIN output to D1100 DIN input. I play my MVP881 BR player through the optical connection using AQ Diamond optical IC. Play CD using AQ Wel Sig digital xlr. Play USB through AQ Coffee USB cable using new Windows 10 laptop. I'm waiting on my Wel Sig 24' xlr IC and 8' speaker cable to be solid silver balanced dual mono from input to output. Soon I will purchase an MR87 tuner and connect it to the D1100 optical input. Then I will eliminate my C-1000 preamp from my system as it will no longer be needed. In my opinion the D1100 is the best buy in high end audio at the present time. The sound it produces through my Alexxes is nothing less than spectacular, even with my present setup which could be improved upon with the addition of soon to arrive reference quality cabling from input to output and elimination of C-1000 from system.

In the very near future I plan to purchase an MR87 tuner. I already have the 3m optical cable in my hands. This tuner has an analog to digital converter so that it will connect nicely to the D1100. Thus the D1100 will become the heart of my new completely upgraded system.

It’s here! Yesterday McIntosh sent me a link to new D1100 firmware that will allow users to turn off the auto mute on USB connection. PM me for the link. Strong work by McIntosh and all involved. I have to believe the timing of this thread and those who subsequently contacted McIntosh played a role. Cheers.

Indeed! I got the software yesterday, but am traveling for work, so can’t test until Friday. I will report back after I test.

You’re welcome, McIntosh community : )

New firmware will allow users to turn off the auto mute on MCT connection?

My assumption is that it will be enabled or disabled for all inputs. Hopefully, disabling the mute will not reintroduce the popping issues they implemented the mute to fix in the first place. Can’t wait to test
