Serge,

Never knew you had efficient speakers and low powered tube amps...

What were they?

It took quite an effort to come up with a combination of gear that was more or less pleasing to the ear, an Audible Illusions Modulus 3A tube preamp and the original McCormack DNA.5 amp with Meridian 508.20 CDP as a source with Cardas cabling.

I eventually sold the whole setup and moved on to high efficiency speakers/low tube power setup that was much richer in tone but ultimately lacking in detail and transparency.

Many systems have followed since but I have not returned to ESL speakers as of yet. I find the box speakers have evolved quite a bit since then as well. My current Wilson speakers make me very happy indeed.

March delivery...... interesting
I paid a deposit on the 1.7's at my local dealer in January and I was told maybe 6-8 months delivery.

Looking forward to your review.

Magnepan speakers truly are a audiophile bargain. I was able to order new covers for my 23 year old pair direct from the factory which were custom to fit my MGIIIa's and have been out of production for years, the sign of a terrific company. When I get a MEN220 I may try it as a new crossover.

Soliloquy speakers, Antique Sound Labs tube monoblocks, AE-3 (Dennis Had) tube preamp and Ah! Tjoeb tube CDP. Very romantic and sweet system but lacked dynamic punch and transparency.

Has nothing to do with being a reviewer. My dealer put his order in right away. If you look at the post, I BOUGHT a pair at reg. price so I can get my hands on them now. If I was waiting for a review sample, I probably wouldn't get em till next year.

I just got lucky that my dealer put his order in right away. I'll be selling em after the review. Don't really need a pair.

It will depend on whether the dealer gets their speakers in the first week of March as promised. If that's the case, they will be in issue 28, due out about March 28.

Otherwise, we may run it as a "Spotlight" review and just put it on the home page of our site. If you are on the TONEAudio mailing list, you'll get first notification. (we only ask for your email address, no personal data...)

I'm very excited to hear these!

Hi tonpub,

I left a message as an email to you last night. Not sure it got through due to the audioaficionado message I recieved. Looks like it had not gone through. Sorry if this is the second one you get.

I was inquiring on the Maggies 1.7. Do you still have them and are you ready to sell them? I would be interested in purchasing a used pair and yours are the first I see.

Looking forward to your news.

Luc
