Charles:
I do enjoy being called "sophisticated" by you even if it was meant to be pejorative. You can keep branding me as a bully and one who tells Mac owners to switch to ARC. You have got the wrong guy. If a guy named George does that, that would be his problem. Nor do you have to "call me out" if you disagree with what I hear. This is not personal to me. It apparently is for you. I know this because you say that when I pick on Mac, I pick on you. All I can say is--if that's the case, I feel sorry for you. Members on this forum have a right to hear from others especially in response to a specific thread devoted to the differences between Mac, ARC and Mark Levinson. Indeed, that is part of what participation here is all about-- to listen to the experiences of others. When someone tells me to open my ears to other products, I truly enjoy doing so. That is, in fact, what led me to switch from Mac. It was the Mac dealer encouraging me to listen to ARC. Thank you Stereo Exchange NYC! But I take this approach with all audio gear. I want to know what's out there and I want to know if I'm missing something that I should perhaps own. Therein lies the difference between us. When someone tells me to listen, my curiosity makes me want to do so. If someone tells you to listen, you put your hands over your ears, take it as an insult and shoot the messenger. This is my last post on this thread. You will obviously get the last word but rest assured, I will not take it personally and I will not respond.

I know George personally, he and I have become good friends over the past 3 years. There isn't a bad bone in his body. I re-read his initial post on this thread, I do not find anywhere where I believe he started this thread to pick on Mac. He has owned the MC601 monoblocks and from my conversation with him in the background from time past, he had very much considered the C1100 as a preamp for his system. Charles - I will not go into detail with my thoughts regarding a few things I have noted on this thread... from you posting prices of your system components to whether you are running optimal equipment with your XVX given the other choices out there and the electronics that they used to develop currently Wilsons. That's not the point of this thread - you can definitely have your loyalty to brands that you find pleasing, I don't think anyone should tell you otherwise especially since you are correct, you are the one who owns the XVX in your own room. But I will defend George for this thread. He did not post it to pick on Mac. I am sure you will still have the last word. Last edited by joey_v; 02-21-2020 at 03:24 AM. |

Everything is to some extent personal. You try to be above me and you are not. From now on make your AR comparisons to some gear other than Mac. Guarantee you won't do it. You are use to beating up on Mac but from now on you will be called on it, I assure you. Last edited by Charles; 02-21-2020 at 05:45 AM. |

And it will be I assure you the last time there is a thread like this without hearing from me. There's a lot of other gear for you all to pick on other than Mac. You guys are just used to beating on Mac and getting away with it. So come on, have at it. |

There are a couple of things I'd like to mention:
My dealer is the most prominent one in my area. He uses Mac to demo Wilson. He has had the Alexia V1 and Sabrina in store. Right now he has an Alexx. When I voiced my interest in an XVX, he was very interested to sell me one. Why? Because he's not in business to demo equipment but to sell equipment. I have a lot of friends at Wilson. Everybody at both Wilson and Mac knows me. I can call up Mac and get personalized service. Why? Because I buy their equipment and they know what I think of their gear and they know I believe in the way it sounds. Same for Wilson. I can tell you that privately, Wilson is very high on Mac. Even Wilson must keep up appearances but they assured me they felt that my 1.25's would do a superb job with my XVX. They have. I have an utterly transparent and smooth system, just as they informed me I would. I maintain that some of you are soothing and smoothing your system because of scrim from components in it other than Mac, especially AR which quite frankly, over the years has never been the last word in transparency or in extended treble or in bass grip or quality. As far as Dag's, they are highly transparent but quite intense front row presentation. They have tighter bass and a more extended treble than AR. My XVX/AQ system would confirm my impressions/beliefs, I believe if you dropped a mono 160 or a Momentum into my system as could be done, along with suitable ancillary sources. I'm a great believer in sound signatures so for it to be fair, one would need suitable sources other than my D1100/MCD1100, but you guys do these unfair comparisons all the time, flippantly. And that's the problem, replacing all that gear with gear suitable to get the best sound out of the demo piece becomes totally impractical in the real world, but you guys live in a fantasy land where you acquire 20,000.00 plus pieces like they are marbles or tiddlywinks, audition them in home, and return them to your dealer or buy them. All you have proved is that the particular gear you are auditioning sounds better you think than the other piece of gear. However all you have proved is that it sounds better with your existing gear. Gear that may be very flawed. I believe AR aficionados use AR as a tool to correct deficiencies in there existing system, then come on the website to proclaim the scrim it removed that was caused by their "beloved Mac". My XVX and AQ gear is supremely transparent. My AQ is solid silver Wel Signature. It is not hiding anything. Ditto my XVX. I don't experience scrim or any of the derogatory sonic descriptions you all have ascribed to Mac. Last edited by Charles; 02-21-2020 at 06:46 AM. |
