How does the DC-37 compare against the DC-901? Is there a compelling reason to get one over the other?

I think it is DSD capability via USB.. DC901 can only do that via HS LINK.

I presume because the DC-37 is a newer device

The fact that the "External Dsp" IN - OUT is not present in DC-37 was a big letdown for me when it was announced: I was expecting it in a dedicated DAC.

IMHO this is because the DC-37 can handle some formats the DG-58 can't.

Do I understand correct that DC37 cannot be used with DG?
(I mean in digital domain)

Not in the way you can use it with a DC-901 or a DP-720 (with a digital loop).

Problem is that with a DG and the DC-37 in the chain, to keep the signal digital as much as possible and avoid double conversions, one should use the DC-37 after DG-58, but then the digital inputs are the DG-58 ones (not many) and you use only one digital inputs of the DC-37 (loosing the "digital hub" capability of the unit).

Furthermore, when I had both DC-37 and DG-58 in my system, I could not detect any difference regarding DAC quality between the two units, so in the end I now simply use the DG-58 also as a DAC.

With a DC-901, and the DG-58 connected with the digital "External DSP" OUT / IN, I could use all the digital inputs of the 901 unit and everyone of them would pass in digital and be worked by DG-58 and then converted by the 901. Very useful and easy.

I must say that I am not interested in the formats the DC-37 supports over the 901.

I'm using an Auralic Aries as streaming bridge, e.g. for playing DSD files via the USB interface. For me it's great...
How can you play DSD files via USB with the DP550???

@BlueDoor,

I'm using an Auralic Aries. If I've understood it correctly, the Aries converts DSD to PCM, so it's not pure DSD...Sorry for my mistake.

Oh I see...
Too bad the Aurender N100 can't convert DSD to PCM.
(Not that I care much about it, my library is 99% PCM).

I think I may have asked before...the USB playback via the streamer is on par with the disc transport in your opinion?
