Lest we forget, Memorial Day is a National Holiday remembering the men and women who died while serving in the country's armed forces. It is a stark reminder that the freedom we enjoy and often take for granted is not free. God bless the souls of our fallen soldiers and sailors. Their ultimate sacrifices should never be forgotten.

Difficult day for me and thus ever since 1972, I've taken a long walk around noon time, regardless of weather.
Wish Congress would revert back to the traditional May 30th day verses the last Monday in May. IMO, it lost some meaning when they made a 3 day weekend out of it. I spent 18 out of 24 overseas, and don't know how they do it today -- multiple deployments, some of which are in all practical terms back-to-back. I was in 2 combat environments, but not 4 in 3 years or less. (as an example). God speed. Everyday is memorial day to me. Bob

Bob if I may, I want to say thank you for your service and sacrifice. Also I would like to share my sentiment on the issue of bureaucracy interference. I worked at Redstone Arsenal (military post as well missile defense and NASA research) here in Huntsville Alabama for 2 years (2005 - 2007). I was at the Fox Army Health Center involved in administering healthcare for assigned military personnel and their families, specifically the "Wounded Warrior" program that is set up to assist the service member's transition back into civilian life. I saw these individuals and understood that they continued to remain in a 2 front combat zone. The first being their physical injuries and the second being their psychological trauma. Bureaucratic restrictions and red tape prevented myself and the team that I worked with to truly accomplish any real or tangible results in the name of healthcare. Furthermore, at the time that I was involved in this line of work, the national statistics (DOD published data mind you) were showing a significant rise in the number of suicides for the returning military, and the bureaucratic response was more power point "suicide prevention" briefings for company commanders and the troops. I found an increasing level of disgust growing within me silently, so as my 2 year contract came time for renewal, I moved on. Bob I truly hope that each day you can find your own peace and solace. I was at the Natioanl World War II museum yesterday in NOLA. If your in New Orleans , very well done .. the museum focuses on trying to give you a experience of the times rather than just some ho hum displays, very well done . I’m back in Pa , happy Memorial Day everyone
