Jim,
Do tell us what you have found with sound quality differences between SooLoos and Sonos? John

I have a zone bridge connected via switched Ethernet to my server. The ZP-90 is connected wiressly to the sever through the zone bridge. John, My experience with the Sonos forum has not been positive. Anything posted there wrt audio quality is suspect in my opinion.

Reading that article felt like a lecture from some kind if smug college professor. To which my response "Those who can do, teach." Which is equally as asinine, but really efforts should be spent in making music more intuitive and accessible to many. Sonos is doing great things for the music lover. The devices to me are very different. Like others here I mainly used the SonoS in my 2-channel room to find new music first on Rhapsody then switched to Spotify and currently MOG. My other SonoS units were hooked up to send content from my MS-300 to my whole house system and to the HT set-up if I wanted music. I purchased the MSMS (Sooloos) MC200 to replace the Olive 4HD and ultimately my MS-300. I have loaded many of my CD's and Hi-Rez files on the MC-200 and use Meridian's iPad ap to control the content. I am using my Meridian 808v3 as the endpoint and DAC for the MC200 to my 2-channel system. The 808 and MC-200 are connected to hardwired to wireless routers that move the music and access Rhapsody content. One of the very nice features of the MDMS is how they integrate Rhapsody with my own CD's and Hi-Rez files. Unlike on the SonoS where you would save Rhapsody/Spotify/MOG content as playlists, on the SooLoos the Rhapsody content is listed with all your other music. If you have saved a Rhapsody disc for Artist A it will be listed along with all of the other music you own for Artist A that you loaded on the MC200's hard drive. |

QQ - I'm running an unmodified Sonos into a W4S DAC2. W4S says that all digital ins are buffered and reclocked.
Will I get a bump in quality by having the Sonos mod or is this just overkill? FYI - huge difference in W4S DAC vs Sonos onboard. |

The first part of the article alludes to the fact that 24/96 means 96Khz signals are being played back (if the content is there). Author contends that this is bad. I thought the '96' in 24/96 means sampling frequency & it is not talking of playback frequency, totally unrelated & cause for confusion. What do you think ?
Second part of the article addresses the sampling frequency bits saying something like current CD or DAT quality sampling is more than adequate & reproduce digitised data perfectly back to analog. I have long forgotten my Nyquist theorem & stuff but dy/dx basic algebra is still there. The more the sampling points the better & less "guessing" while reconstructing the analog waveform. Correct ? Anyway back to Sonos. While the main room is being refurbished, I am using an unmodified Sonos connected to Empirical Audio reclocker thingy + ARC DAC 8 + Naim Super Nait integrated amplifier + Harbeth P3ESR. Pretty pleased with the result so far. Regards, Joe Ling
