Default From Music City

Greetings from Nashville. I look forward to enjoying the forum and the company.

I am a retired pro audio guy and have always enjoyed all aspects of music production and reproduction. I worked for Otari in the '70s during the tape heyday and later started a rep firm in the Pacific Northwest. We were the Harman pro division reps for thirty one years amongst many other things and my specialties grew to be sound reinforcement, distributed sound, public spaces and recording. Everyone in my immediate family plays music and my youngest daughter also has a good ear for recording as well as singing, playing and writing. I'm by far the least talented person in the group, but I supply all the gear so they put up with me.

I'm currently assembling a system for the new house we moved into here and have Revel Salon 2s on order for our music room and about ready to order the electronics.

Really great to be here and I'm looking forward to learning from all of you and adding what I can to the discussion from my end.

Nice to see another Nashvillian. I grew up there. And, though I've lived in NY for some time now (came here for grad school and never left), part of me still connects to Nashville and I at least go through there on my way to my sister's for Christmas. Nashville's very different these days.

Are the Revels on order from Hi Fi Buys? Just curious.

Hi prepress! Curiously, I'm originally from New York but have come to Nashville following a 40 plus year layover on the west coast. Our daughter is here so we're doing what parents do......chasing her down!

The Revels come as a result of my 45 years in the pro audio industry, many of them spent working under contract for Harman amongst others. I was a pro audio rep for many of those years. Previously I also worked for Otari, a manufacturer of professional tape decks and before that I spent time in a film and post production facility that also serviced and sold audio products to the industry.

I have a passable body of experience (or at least passed a bit of time) with tape, a now virtually defunct body of knowledge that mainly serves to classify me as a codger.

I'm a fan of Hi Fi Buys. Lovely product selection, customer oriented pricing, down to earth approach....a very nice shop at a time when having a brick and mortar is no easy task. I will continue to buy what I can from them. They're delivering a Sony 65" XBR930D to me this week, so I hope they know I'm doing my part to keep them healthy!

I stopped in Hi Fi Buys for the first time back in 2012 (12/26 to be precise), and auditioned some Mac gear (through Revel speakers, by the way). Didn't buy any that day, but came out with a pair of Transparent MusicLink Plus interconnects. I like them, and the store. It was too bad that Nicholson's Hi Fi went out of business; that was another store I liked.

Next time I get to Nashville I might try to visit Hi Fi Buys again. Not that I have any real business spending money, but who knows?

I will say congrats on the move to Nashville. Other than Hi Fi Buys, what else have you enjoyed about the city?
