Well, there is no doubt in the Oracle's mind that McIntosh will follow the same path with minimum phase "MP" filter in their future products, I think many if not most will. It just seems to close the gap and merge the vinyl and digital camp much closer together. I already hear what I heard on some of the best vinyl rigs I've experienced with the MP filter save for still a bit more palpability and 3-dimensionality of a serious analog rig.

Just like some of the better solid state amps have just about closed the gap on the argument of what is better, tubes or solid state. You can have the rich, harmonic structure of a good to great tube amp with none of the limitations of frequency extremes and the control and grip of solid state. The Lamm's are that as are a few other amps out there, even the Ayre MX-Rs are more liquid sounding these days than your typical SS amp of yesterday.

for now, its off to New Orleans..Jazzfest awaits. I love this time of year

Jason, I had a 2200 and now that I installed the 1000, the tone controls are not missed. Not that I played with them much when they were available. I am happy for the balance control since I need additional support on one side.

Great opinions, keep them coming....I had the same problem with my MCD500 not "reading" SACD discs. It was about two weeks after receiving it, and one morning all of a sudden, I had to manually switch back and forth from CD to SACD. It was a real pain, to say the least. However, a few days later, after reading the owners' manual, I "re-booted" the player, and voila, back to business as usual.

Obviously, I am in agreement with Serge on the Ayre front. I find the C-5xeMP to be a fantastic player with the new filters. However, since I switched my previous Mac system entirely with new Ayre gear, I never directly compared the MCD 500 to the C-5xeMP in the same system. I can tell you that with a more significant investment, the Ayre system is on a whole new level from what I previously enjoyed...
