Note that's because the DAC8 is solid state; the CD 9 has six tubes - four 6H30s and one each of a 6550WE and 6H30.

Hi Rich,

What a nice system, and so similar to my set up not long ago.

These make me miss the Salon2 .. I miss them.

George and Toga,

Thank you very much for the kind words. I am also a big Pass Labs fan and had considered the XP-30 before getting the ARC preamp.

I guess you could say it is a decent system, and then some by a large margin.

I am well aware of the Salon 2's being an Infinity lover. After Carrie Christie and John Ulrich left Infinity, much of the research went into developing Revel speakers, though I believe Arnie retained the patents for Emit and Emim drivers. In fact, there is a photo (below) showing Revel voicing a pair of standmounts using Infinity IRS Omega's as reference. I also recall Revel often used ARC amps to voice their speakers (as did Infinity), so that seems like a logical choice. Overall smashing room & great photos! Thanks for sharing

There always are, but your system looks fantastic. You've assembled a superb set of gear. How do you like those AQ WEL?

David and Derek,

Thanks for the king words.
I recently bought a pair of AQ Wild Blue Yonder interconnects and they sound very close to the WEL at half the price but still pretty steep at $4k per 1m pair. It's a pretty big step up from the AQ Sky.

I have also made a few system changes in the past few months.
The ARC DAC 8 and Berkeley DAC 2 have been sold but I did keep the Berkeley USB converter. I am now using the Esoteric K-03 and ARC CD9 as DACs with the Berkeley USB converter. It makes a huge difference.

The Shunyata Talos power conditioner was replaced with a Triton and also got a couple of ZiTron Python and anaconda cords.

System is sounding pretty good.

It's been almost two years without updating my system, mostly due to my new photography hobby and can't afford to support two expensive hobbies.

Recently I have made some upgrades to my system, but due to a sad circumstance. A very good audiophile friend unexpectedly passed away a few months ago and his entire audio system was left to me. It was very difficult to accept. Frank spent many years putting his fantastic system together with thousands of vinyls and tube equipment.

So today I started bringing home boxes of records and Frank's meticulously tweaked Basis 2500 turntable with a Clear Audio cartridge. This is my first analog setup and introduction to analog. I am in the process of cleaning a room and setting up a second system with all of Frank's equipment. Hopefully, it was will completed in a couple of months. The first cut will be from Dusty Springfield, Frank's favorite.
