I think Ivan Fischer and The Budapest could play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and you'd think it was the finest symphony you'd ever heard . . . .
That being said . . . I'm listening to one of that Conductor/Orchestra's newest releases and I'm a little ambivalent. Superb sound, excellent recording, but the performance seems a little slow and seems to miss some of the excitement of this blockbuster symphony. Listening to . . . Mahler - Symphony No. 5 The Budapest Festival Orchestra - Ivan Fischer, Conductor A Channel Classics SACD recorded in 2013 And about all I can say right now is "This darn thing sounds good . . . but . . ."

Wow...this is easily one of the best harpsichord (and virginal--he uses both) recordings I have ever heard. Mr. Demeyere's instruments are there in the listening room, but it doesn't sound dry and claustrophobic. It would make a fantastic disc for evaluating the mids and highs in potential new speakers. Oh yes, the music and playing are fantastic as well!
It's on the Challenge Classics label. Last edited by Toccata; 12-30-2013 at 09:31 PM. |

I have it and I think the performances are excellent. Honeck is very good in the recordings I have heard.
As you may know, this Fresh! Reference Recording is not recorded by Reference itself, but it was done by the Pittsburgh engineer along with the SoundMirror organization.
