Agreed, but two things occur from having this information. 1. If you're at the point of looking to purchase new, its nice to know a new one might be coming out soon so you don't waste your money on an old item. 2. It's good to keep an eye out once dealers start selling their displays for discount. |

The reviews show that both of them sound similar, but the word is the MX160 is significantly better sounding. |

Awesome! Maybe in a few months, I can pick up a 160 for about $3000, the amount I just paid to fix my 150.

$10-$15k every 3 years doesn't bother some people. Unless you need or want the latest audio codecs and the HDMI debacle effects you, the MX160 may be just fine. Ron

My MX121 is fine for 5.1. Will be adding a C47 in bypass mode to listen to 2 channel. 🎶

The following comment is predicated on the MX160 being based on the Lyngdorf MP-50. If that’s not true, then I’ve wasted your time.
An authorized representative of Lyngdorf told me a new HDMI 2.1 board for the MP-50 will be out in spring 2018. Current MP-50 owners can pay to have Lyngdorf update their unit. Will McIntosh enable MX160 owners to have theirs changed out? |

Rumor - McIntosh MX160 replacement coming soon (MX170)?
New McIntosh MX170 to be revealed CEDIA Sept 2018 in San Diego. The MX170 will have a new HDMI2.0b board to allow 18gHz pass through of all currently available 4K formats. The Lyngdorf MP-50 is supposed to get this HDMI board update 1st, reported 2Q2018. The MX160 will be upgradable to the new HDMI board which to my knowledge will be the only significant difference with the MX170. Word is upgrade board availability for McIntosh will be 1Q2019. This is welcome news as I am trying to decide between the MX160/170 and the MP-50 for the SSP in my media room to be built this year.

That last sentence it a bit odd. Do we believe the reviews or "the word".
