Default Altec and Luxman..

Not a lot of projects in-progress today, so I thought I'd tackle one I enjoy most - audio!!!!

Brought out my Altec Model 14s to perform some annual maintenance, as well as putting some music through them.....

They are not the best speakers but they were pretty high-end in their day.

Playing in the garage system where a Luxman R-117 is providing the power.

Nice afternoon project.

Model 14 with a 902 diaphragm can extend out to 20,000 with very little fall off at 20 khz. I like the fibre glass mantaray horn as it doesn't ring like the old 800 and 500 hz metal horns. I wish the 411 woofer, I believe, didn't have to reach so high! The speaker really needed a midrange, but then it would be an Altec would it? Its pretty in efficient for an Altec but thats the price you pay for low frequencies out of a small cabinet. A super clean SS amp really helps the speaker produce sound with authority. As I remember luxman they were very smooth and neutral to a little on the shy side. Great for 3 way klipsch and JBL, not much with 2 way Altec.
