I've owned the PS Audio GCHA and while it is a great amp at a great price, there are much better options out there...
When I went to CanJam, my favorite headphone amp by far was the Woo Audio WA6SE. I liked it more than amps costing as much as $10, 000. However, there are many people who claim that the Bryston BHA-1 is even better yet. Unfortunately, I have not yet had the opportunity to audition one. |

Who has interest - I can give a link on Facebook, that manufacturer has account there. My headamp is really on top of the list. Price will impress you. More photos & details can be found in my thread. http://www.audioaficionado.org/membe...-system-2.html[/QUOTE]
Sergio, I noticed your headphone amp uses an r-core transformer rather than the more common toroidal variety. Any reason for this?

1. less noise. 2. standing current (rest current) is minimal. 3. absence of headache with phasing of power plug (in case of toroidal transformer you always need to play with connection of power plug into wall socket). so finally R-core is more preferable for Sound. some kind of toroidal transformer is better, for example - swedish Noratech, but it is more expensive. |

Consider the new Oppo HA-1 too. I'm enjoying mine right now. Lehmann Audio Linear is another solid amp. Also look into SPL Phonitor 2. We reviewed the Linear and Phonitor 2. Sennheiser and AKG used Lehmann Audio amps to power their flagship models at press events.

Lehmann or Bryston BHA-1. The Lehmann mates very well with Sennheiser. The Bryston is an incredible value at it's price.

I've read a few reviews that mention a slight lack of bass in the Woo WA6. Has that been anyone's experience here? If so, how "slight" is it? I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 800s and listen entirely to classical music. Other amps I'm considering are the Burson Soloist SL and the Musical Fidelity M1-HPA-P. I don't need a built-in DAC, as I'll be connecting my Oppo 105 to it. Actually, the headphone out on the Oppo sounds pretty good, but I guess it could be better. Any other recommendations for an amp under $1,000?

Yes the WA6 has a little less low end umph, I go the model WA-6SE with more power and it is night to day a better amp, but with the nicer tubes will run over $1400. You can upgrade better parts in the Woo WA6 and it is better than stock, but is not the same as the better amps in the over 1K range.
