Richard.... your system deserves a Playback Designs DAC. You will be very surprised how analog these can sound. That's the ultimate dac for vinyl lovers. I have heard unbelievable direct A/B comparisons between the small player and a very high end TT playing the same tune at exactly the same time. Just incredible.

Richard- That system is off the charts. I don't doubt how great it must sound in that room. Enjoy it in good health. Cheers, Don

Depends on the listener! For me, analog is king, but I do have a lot of music on CDs. I spent a long while listening to various DACs before deciding on one. Leaving aside the typical inane arguments of analog vs digital, the main difference, to me, is one of life vs sterility. It may sound like a small thing, but very few people know how to bring music to life. Shindo is one. And, at least within the scope of DACs that I've demoed, I think Lukazs at Lampizator has done something unique within the digital world. I will gladly offer more details on my impressions of each, but, at the end of the day, only you and your ears can decide "how close"!

As to the Petites in field coil versus alnico, I cannot comment; I've only heard field coil versions of the Latours. Perhaps Matt can chime in with some differences between the two. I, for one, would love to know what the difference in sound is between them. You have them in alnico, if I'm not mistaken, no? These have the 806A HF and 414 LF drivers? It's the first I see them ported at the front, so I'm curious what he's stocking them up with... |

What sort of system do you listen to? Right now the petites are sounding quite incredible - much more relaxed from a few days ago - with bob dylan in mono spinning. I too am curious about the drivers. I am also very curious to hear the difference in step ups between the shindo we816 and the hommage... I intend to a/b those, as well as the we300b ltd vs the gm70 - benefit of having Matt so close. Any predictions? |

If you want an analogue sounding dac Richard - I would suggest jumping on the AMR 77 for sale in the classifieds for $3500 - serious bargain for the performance. Really is something special.

Will be very interested to hear your impressions of the WE300b compared to the GM70's. Glad to hear the petites are coming into their own. Amazing what Shindo can do with vintage technology. |
