It's a toss up between C-J pre and amps and a Richard Gray power conditioner.

I will admit to making one or two purchases in the middle of happy hour. Seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

Fortunately I have a few hi fi shops and chain store nearby, and they are industrious in insisting on setting up a listen. It won't be hard to upgrade from my Ruark R5 (review shortly) if and when the time comes. Heck, we've even got a few Mackies now; not many, but a few. It has been, as the saying goes, a long time in coming.

Bose headphones. Very expensive and literally fell apart after a few months due to poor build quality. I didn't even use them that much since I was rotating them with my Sennheisers and Beyerdynamics.

Back in 1980s !! I owned a very nice little Hafler DH110 I built as a kit. For some reason I suddenly had a desire to own a Sony digital preamp, with all sorts of 'effects'. So I traded in the Hafler.
Well after getting bored with the sound effects i stopped listening to music. Later on, I wondered why did I stop? and I knew it was the POS Sony. Sold the Sony and bought a Counterpoint 2000. Nice preamp (when it was working) The 'other mistake' plenty of folks made... When CD came along, selling all the LPs turntable etc... I WAS LUCKIER than most though as i had a chance to buy a Classical Lp collection cheap. I made me decide yeah owning a turntable was good. And that led me to buy thousands more used records when they were basically being given away in late 90's early 2000's! Lucky break there. |

The Sony entry level in ear in a 'plush' range. Nothing but treble.

Dumb
The Olive 06HD, after the Olive 04HD. Luckily purchased on Olive's auction, and low bid at that (should have been a clue when they accepted my offer...)
Had over "130 dB of dynamic range and 256 times the resolution of CD's".

Hmmm........... McIntosh MA2275. My dealer warned me it wasn't like the rest of McIntosh's tube gear going in, but I was too smart to believe him. Thankfully, he did take it back at the original $$ when I traded for a C2200/MC75 pair after a very disappointing several weeks. On the upside, all the tubes I rolled in it were still good for the new gear.
