Not that I know of.

In theory the MEN220 is a pretty high end solution anyway, that should bring the best from any type of speakers, since it corrects room problems as much as it can.

What I mean is that the unit tries to correct the sound of the room, not the sound of the speakers.

Here's the issue. Some of us are not happy about inserting additional A/D/A conversions in the signal path. I find it counter-intuitive that people with analog sources have to do this for room correction, e.g., MEN220 or various miniDSP products. OTOH, those of us who have only digital sources can apply room EQ without that encumbrance. There are several good options.

P.S.: The choice has nothing to do with the particular speakers.

It does both since it cannot distinguish one from the other. The only off-the-shelf device that does this is the DEQX.

Hello All

I am in the process of deciding between the 803D3 and the 802D3 and would appreciate some advice from the panel.

My room is 3.5m x 7m x 2.3m with normal damping and my present speaker is the original Nautilus 802 from 1998, sitting at 0.5m from each wall and 1m from the back wall. I have no issues with bass boom and fine sound overall (expecting better to come, obviously!).

I am leaning towards the 803 due to the room size but looking at pictures on the forum I see others using the 802 in similar conditions to mine. Will the 802 over power my room or will they be OK - also taking into account that the Nautilus 802 work OK?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

The 802d3 will not overpower the room.

You should be more concerned about the smaller midrange driver on the 803d3 rather than the larger woofers of the 802d3. You will have similar room interaction, speaker boundary interactions, etc. treat the room well, bass traps, and enjoy the 802d3

My great room is 20' wide by 25' long, with a vaulted ceiling. It is split into 2 zones (dining room and living room), so my listening spot is on a roughly 10' equilateral triangle to my 802d3s.

The bass response in my room is lovely, even, and musical. No complaints at all (quite the opposite...one of the nicest surprises about these speakers).

To joey_v's point, I wouldn't expect either to overwhelm your room more than the other. When I was auditioning the 802d3s vs the 803d3s, they were remarkably similar, but the 802d3 were more effortless and graceful, esp. during challenging passages (for details, see http://www.audioaficionado.org/b-w-s...tml#post755460

If you lean towards more sonically challenging music (well recorded jazz/vocal pieces, orchestral pieces, etc) the 802d3s just ahve that little extra. Audition both, and go whichever one hits your price/performance sweet spot.

I agree with the others here....don"t be concerned about the 802's in your room. The downward firing bass port practically eliminates worrying over placement. You will appreciate the fuller mids and low end of the 802's vs. the 803. The price difference isn't that great for the smooth top to bottom balance of these speakers. My room isn't much larger than yours, is full of furniture, and mine sound fantastic.
